    Love, Faith and Gratitude

What gives you direction in life?

A steady state of faith and devotion to our Self always helps to keep the road ahead well-lit.

    Love, Faith, Gratitude

Oftentimes during darkness, the best of our faculties can seem misleading. Our sense of direction falters. During such times it is our faith that helps us step into the light and keep us on track to achieve our goals.

Faith in the benevolence of the Universe that we will be taken care of. Devotion to ourselves and growth guides us through tough times and makes sure we get the direction we need for our highest purpose.

It is our Love for life that keeps us connected to the Universe!

And a steady state of gratitude keeps us going!

  • Are we really okay with the way we look in the mirror?

Are we really okay with the way we look in the mirror?

Coming to terms with the mirror – Part 1

Getting ready for summer is a great time to come out of our beginning-of-new-year hibernation that usually starts 8-10 days after we start working on our resolutions.

At the break of the first ray of light as we come out of the fog and start shedding our jackets we take one real look in the mirror and confront with our unfiltered versions.

While it feels good to say, “I have come to terms with my ‘lewks’..” how many of us really feel that?

I still fall in the bucket of the latter where it feels right to come to terms with my body but it just doesn’t feel right yet! Everyday feels like a constant battle between me and that image in the mirror who triggers me every morning.

So how can we handle this conversation with ourselves better?

How can we battle the darkness within when all we are constantly exposed to is a social media with glamor and filters to remind us of our warts and blemishes?

Is running away from social media the only option?

I am still pondering on this one.…

What’s on my mind? Let’s see..

What topics do you like to discuss?

    Sex.

    There I said it.

In today’s day and age discussing sex is hardly a taboo. Yet, most of us find it hard to talk about sex. To say the word. To say it out loud. Even to ourselves.

There is always judgment involved. There is always walking around eggshells.

Somebody’s ego gets hurt. While somebody else gets offended.

So the question is. How can we talk about sex without really talking about it?

What’s the right way to deal with this subject?

How do we talk about painful intercourse? And erectile dysfunction. Or maybe pre-mature ejaculation anyone?

Then there is sex post-menopause and sex after forty.

All very important topics to discuss. Are we talking about all this? I really hope we do.

  • Does a healthy account balance reduce your stress level? Part I

Does a healthy account balance reduce your stress level? Part I

    Yes and No!

In 2018 a couple of years into my dream job, I moved into my dream apartment.

Life had seen its highs and lows in terms of money by then. There had been times when I lived paycheck to paycheck and struggled to pay my bills. The stress of a depleting account balance had a cumulative effect, in that, it kept me tied to a stressful job and added to the stress of living in an expensive city.

All that changed after I got my dream job. After getting a pay hike and a sizeable bonus I started feeling the bliss of a steadily growing bank balance. The reduced stress from my finances brought in a huge spurt of quality into my life and existence.

But my needs and wants kept growing. I was not satisfied with a stress less existence. I wanted more- more money in my bank, better apartment, better life.

So come 2018 – 1.5 years into my dream job I moved into a fancy new apartment. It was bigger, more beautiful. With a bigger apartment came bigger aspirations.

I wanted better furniture, fancier things, fancier people in my circle. With it came added bills and added frills to my existence.

And with these added bills my bank account went back to a steady depletion.

A year into a fancier life, I realized – I had gone back to living a stressful life. The stress added to my work. And what was once a dream job felt like a dreadful place again.

So did a healthy account balance reduce the stress in my life? You tell me.

The lesson I learned from this was simple – stress is pretty man-made. A bank account mostly adds to it. A healthy way to deal with stress is to deal with the intricacies of being human and learn the lessons coming from a lived experience.

  • That Tuesday Morning

    That Tuesday Morning

Describe a risk you took that you do not regret.

    A life better lived

    “Your role has been eliminated.”

It was a crisp Tuesday morning of February a week before my birthday. My weekly meeting with my boss had been converted into a layoff call.

My job of last seven years went away with a poof!

At that point, my job was my only life. I had sacrificed my family, my friendships, my hobbies and my relationships for a career that had brought me to a dead-end.

With a single blow I was left to fend for myself without a support system. Suddenly I had nothing to look forward to and nowhere to go.

The following months went into an abyss of darkness that usually comes with a painful depression when the earth beneath your feet dissappears.

Now when I look back at that moment a year later I feel that was the best thing to happen to me!!!

Why? Because that moment propelled me to take a HUGE RISK..

I realized that while a successful career had brought me far in life it was time to make amends with other parts of my life!

So I packed my bags and decided to leave my career behind to give importance to other things that mattered – family, loved ones, passions and some much needed time for myself to recuperate.

I published my first book a few months after that fulfilling one of my biggest passions – to become a writer.

I spent the last year doing everything that my career had not let me do. Makes me eternally grateful for the decision I took last year.

Yes that was a big risk that I was taking. Leaving a career of 15+ years behind for an unknown future was indeed a risk. One that I will never regret!

  • Dear Diary….

    Dear Diary….

Write about a time when you didn’t take action but wish you had. What would you do differently?

    “I am enough”

I am not sure… I always ask myself this question!

Did I do enough? Was I enough?

Maybe that’s what’s wrong! Maybe I WAS enough always. Maybe the action I did NOT take earlier was to WALK AWAY from this feeling. This feeling of not being enough.

I wish I knew earlier that I was enough. I am enough. I always have been enough.

So what would I do differently this time?

“ENOUGH!” I would say this sooner.

I wish I knew this sooner.

    What makes you nervous?

    Preparing for a job interview!!!

Today seems to be a perfect day to answer this prompt. I am going for a job interview today after a very long time, so of course… I am super nervous. About a lot of things. But in this state of nervousness I am reminding myself the following:

    – I am going to interview for a dream job.

    – Feeling strong feelings for this job is my subconscious propelling me towards my dream

    – everytime I feel jitters I think about my dream, visualise my happy place living my dream and miraculously get transported to a future where I am already successful

    – I think about “what” makes me feel nervous instead of the feeling itself

    – the what helps me prepare better and give more energy to my jittery nerves to do better, work harder and be successful!

    So grateful for this prompt!!!!

  • Mirror Mirror on the Wall: Reflecting Your Way to Transformation through mirror work

Mirror Mirror on the Wall: Reflecting Your Way to Transformation through mirror work

    Mirror mirror on the wall!

“Mirror, mirror on the wall,” we often begin in fairytales, seeking external validation. But what if the truest reflection we seek lies not in a magical pane of glass, but within ourselves? Mirror work, a powerful self-discovery technique, utilizes the literal mirror as a gateway to profound inner transformation. By gazing into our own eyes and engaging in honest self-dialogue, we unlock the potential to manifest the life we truly desire.

At its core, mirror work is about cultivating self-compassion and replacing negative self-talk with empowering affirmations. It’s a practice that feels radical at first. We’re so accustomed to the inner critic’s constant barrage that offering kindness to ourselves can feel awkward, even insincere. But with consistent reflection, a shift occurs. The harsh pronouncements soften, replaced by gentle observations. “I feel discouraged today,” you might acknowledge, rather than launching into a tirade about inadequacy. This simple act of acknowledging your emotions, without judgment, creates space for self-compassion to bloom.

Imagine a wilted flower in a neglected garden. Harsh words are like leaving it parched in the sun. But with gentle affirmations, like offering water and nurturing soil, the flower begins to revive. “I am capable of overcoming challenges,” you might say, meeting your gaze with sincerity. At first, the words might sound hollow. But with repetition, with the quiet power of self-belief, they start to take root. The wilted flower straightens, its petals unfurling towards the light. The self-compassion you cultivate through mirror work becomes the fertile ground where your authentic self can flourish.

Mirror work wasn’t always my cup of tea. Staring at myself, dissecting every perceived flaw, felt more like punishment than self-discovery. But then came the layoff. The sting of rejection, the sudden financial uncertainty, pushed me to try anything. So, there I was, bathroom mirror turned therapist, taking a shaky breath.

It started with affirmations. “I am capable,” I mumbled, the words foreign on my tongue. But with each repetition, a spark ignited. I envisioned myself at a job I loved, the feeling of purpose blooming in my chest. It wasn’t magic, but the doubt that had previously choked my spirit began to loosen its grip.

However, the journey goes deeper. Shadow work, a crucial aspect of mirror work, delves into the hidden corners of our psyche. We confront our insecurities, past hurts, and limiting beliefs that hold us back. By acknowledging and releasing these shadows, we make space for the light of our authentic selves to shine.

Shadow work within mirror work can be a messy, emotional affair. It’s like venturing into a dusty attic, cobwebs clinging to forgotten memories. At first, the shadows loom large. The voice that whispers “you’re not good enough” echoes from a childhood rejection. The fear of failure, a tangled mess of past mistakes, threatens to suffocate you. Tears well up, blurring your reflection. It’s uncomfortable, yes, but it’s also a necessary purge.

But here’s the magic: as you acknowledge these shadows, a transformation begins. The act of naming them, of giving voice to these hidden fears, somehow diminishes their power. They become less like monstrous creatures and more like scared, wounded parts of yourself. With this newfound understanding, you can begin to offer them compassion. “That fear of failure,” you might say to your reflection, “it stems from a time when I felt lost. It doesn’t define me anymore.”

As you extend this compassion, a remarkable thing happens. The shadows begin to shrink, their hold loosening. Light starts to seep into the corners of the attic, revealing forgotten strengths and buried talents. You discover a resilience you never knew you possessed, a wellspring of creativity waiting to be tapped. The darkness doesn’t vanish entirely; shadows are a part of us. But through mirror work, they no longer control you. They become whispers in the background, reminders of the battles fought and won, the journey that led you to become the strong, authentic self staring back at you in the mirror.

As I approached shadow work, the mirror reflected not just my worried features, but the insecurities lurking beneath. I confessed my fear of failure, the voice of my inner critic a constant nag. But as I spoke these fears aloud, they somehow lost their power. They became shadows dancing on the wall, not monsters controlling me.

Another transformative aspect is child work. We reconnect with our inner child, the part of us that holds onto unhealed wounds and limiting beliefs formed in our early years. Through mirror work, we can offer love and understanding to this vulnerable part, releasing the pain and fostering self-acceptance.

Child work within mirror work is a tender dance. You stand before the mirror, not as the adult you are now, but as the child you once were. The reflection might hold the familiar sting of past hurts – a lost opportunity, a harsh word from a parent. Tears might well up, a release of emotions long bottled up.

But here’s the key: you are no longer a helpless child. You are the adult, the wise and compassionate one. Gently, you speak to your younger self. “It’s okay to feel sad,” you say, your voice a soothing balm. “That experience didn’t define you.” You offer the validation the child craved but never received.

Perhaps you create a safe space, imagining a comforting hug or a favorite toy. You might even apologize for the times you, as the adult, neglected the needs of your inner child. The process can be surprisingly powerful. As you acknowledge the child’s pain and offer love, a wave of healing washes over you. The limiting beliefs formed in those early years begin to loosen their grip.

The child in the mirror doesn’t vanish entirely. They’ll always be a part of you, a source of vulnerability and creativity. But through mirror work, you learn to nurture them, to celebrate their wonder and innocence. The inner critic that once echoed the harsh words of your childhood loses its power. In its place blooms self-acceptance, a deep understanding that you are worthy of love and happiness, just as you are.

As my child self revealed itself the floodgates opened up. Lots of tears. Mirror work unearthed buried hurts from childhood, a wellspring of self-doubt disguised as a “realistic outlook.” But with each sob, a layer of negativity peeled away. The child in me, once scared and alone, felt a comforting presence – my own.

By integrating shadow and child work into mirror work, we cultivate a powerful inner alignment. This newfound coherence strengthens the Law of Attraction, the principle that our thoughts and beliefs shape our reality.

For me, it wasn’t a linear path. There were days the mirror reflected only discouragement. But with each session, the positive affirmations gained strength, the shadows danced less wildly, and the tears became cleansing showers. The universe seemed to take notice. Interview opportunities materialized, and a sense of calm, a newfound peace, settled within me.

When we hold clear intentions for abundance, backed by the emotional release of mirror work, we become more effective manifestors. When we hold clear intentions for abundance, backed by the emotional release of mirror work, we become more effective manifestors. It’s like clearing the fog from a window. Before mirror work, our desires might be hazy, entangled with anxieties and past disappointments. But the process of confronting our shadows and healing our inner child polishes the window of our soul. We see our goals with newfound clarity, unburdened by negativity.

This clarity fuels our intentions. Instead of a lukewarm “maybe I could get that promotion,” mirror work empowers us to declare, “I am worthy of success, and I will achieve it.” The affirmations aren’t just empty words; they’re pronouncements backed by the emotional groundwork we’ve laid. We believe in ourselves, not just because we say so, but because we’ve unearthed the strength and resilience within.

Furthermore, mirror work dismantles the hidden barriers that block abundance. Maybe a past experience of financial hardship left you subconsciously sabotaging opportunities. Or perhaps a deep-seated fear of failure held you back from pursuing your dreams. By acknowledging and releasing these emotional roadblocks, we open the door to possibilities we never knew existed.

The universe, they say, responds to vibration. And the clear, unwavering intentions born from mirror work send out a powerful signal. It’s like broadcasting your desires on a cosmic frequency, attracting opportunities and synchronicities that align with your goals. Suddenly, the right connections appear, the perfect job opening pops up, or an unexpected financial windfall arrives. It’s not magic, but the natural consequence of aligning your inner world with your outer desires.

Mirror work doesn’t guarantee instant riches or overnight success. But it equips you with the most valuable tools: self-belief, emotional clarity, and the ability to attract opportunities. It’s a journey of self-discovery that empowers you to not just dream of abundance, but to actively manifest it in your life.

Imagine standing before the mirror, not with self-criticism, but with unwavering belief. You see yourself thriving in your dream career, financial security radiating from your confident posture. You speak affirmations of success, feeling the energy of those words course through you. Mirror work empowers you to visualize and embody the life you desire, attracting opportunities and synchronicity that bring your vision to life.

The same principle applies to relationships and inner peace. By practicing self-love through mirror work, you become a magnet for healthy, fulfilling connections. As you release past hurts and limiting beliefs about love, you open yourself to receive the love you deserve. Furthermore, mirror work fosters inner peace by cultivating self-acceptance. By confronting your shadow and healing your inner child, you learn to let go of anxieties and self-doubt. This newfound serenity allows you to navigate life’s challenges with grace and composure.

Mirror, mirror on the wall, no longer a passive reflection, but a portal to profound transformation. Through consistent practice, mirror work empowers you to manifest a life filled with abundance, fulfilling relationships, and unwavering inner peace. It’s a journey of self-discovery, self-acceptance, and ultimately, self-creation. So, step boldly before the mirror, and begin crafting the reflection of your dreams.

Today, I stand before the mirror, not a reflection of fear and doubt, but a woman transformed. I landed a job that ignites my passion, the financial worry replaced by a comfortable security. My relationships thrive, built on the foundation of self-love I cultivated in those intense, tear-filled sessions. Most importantly, I see a woman at peace, finally comfortable in her own skin.

Mirror, mirror on the wall, you are no longer a cold reflection, but a testament to my journey. You hold the scars of battles fought and won, the echoes of self-doubt vanquished. You are a reminder that transformation lies within, waiting to be unearthed with a little courage and a whole lot of self-love.

The victory wasn’t just about the job or the money. It was a domino effect. The confidence I gained from mirror work spilled over into my writing, a passion long neglected. Dusting off my personal diary, I started crafting stories again. This time, the words flowed with a newfound authenticity. My characters, once echoes of my own insecurities, bloomed with strength and vulnerability.

Soon, rejection emails from literary magazines turned into requests for revisions. My first short story published online was a moment of pure, unadulterated joy. It wasn’t a bestseller, but it was a testament to the power of believing in myself.

Now, my mornings begin not just with mirror work affirmations, but with weaving tales of resilience and hope. The woman staring back isn’t just a reflection; she’s a storyteller, a manifestor, a woman living a life she once only dared to dream. The mirror, once a battleground, has become a silent cheerleader, a constant reminder that the greatest transformation happens not through external validation, but through the fierce love we cultivate for ourselves.

  • From Lurkers to Leaders: Mastering the Art of Sharing with Robert Greene

From Lurkers to Leaders: Mastering the Art of Sharing with Robert Greene

    The Art of Sharing

In today’s hyper-connected world, the ability to share effectively is a powerful tool. But how do we navigate this social landscape, ensuring our ideas resonate and our messages land?

By applying the timeless principles of Robert Greene, the master strategist of human behavior, we can transform ourselves from passive sharers to captivating communicators.

The age of the silent observer is over. In today’s digital age, where information flows like a raging river, the ability to share effectively is no longer a luxury, it’s a necessity. But how do we stand out amidst the constant barrage of content? How do we ensure our voices are heard, our messages understood, and our ideas truly resonate?

Robert Greene, the mastermind behind influential works like “The 48 Laws of Power” and “The Art of Seduction.” While Greene’s focus often lies on navigating power dynamics, his core principles can be surprisingly adaptable to the art of sharing. By applying these timeless strategies, we can transform ourselves from passive lurkers to captivating communicators, leaving a lasting impact on the digital landscape.

Law 1: Never Outshine the Master – Master Your Audience.

Greene emphasizes the importance of understanding your audience. When sharing, tailor your message to their level of knowledge. Imagine yourself explaining a complex scientific theory to a child – you wouldn’t bombard them with jargon, would you? The same principle applies online. Know your platform, understand your followers’ interests, and avoid overwhelming them with excessive details or convoluted arguments. Strive to illuminate, not outshine.

Imagine you’re a travel blogger blogging about your latest trip to Istanbul with a photo of the vibrant Grand Bazaar, overflowing with spices, carpets, and handcrafted treasures.

Here’s how Greene’s Law applies to crafting an engaging caption that respects your audience’s knowledge:

    Mistake: Overly Generic & Touristy:

“Shopping in Istanbul’s Grand Bazaar! So many cool things to see! #turkey🇹🇷 #grandbazaar”

While this might capture the general excitement, it doesn’t offer much depth or cater to a specific audience.

    Greene’s Approach: Tailoring for Engagement

Know your audience: Are they history buffs interested in Ottoman architecture, foodies seeking culinary experiences, or bargain hunters on the hunt for unique souvenirs?

    • Target the knowledge level:

    For History Buffs:

“Wandering the vibrant Grand Bazaar, a historic trading hub since the 15th century! Marvel at the architectural wonders nearby, like the soaring domes and intricate tilework of the Sultan Ahmed Mosque (Blue Mosque), or the majestic Hagia Sophia, a captivating blend of Byzantine and Ottoman influences. #ottomanhistory #grandbazaararchitecture”

This post speaks to their passion for historical details, highlighting the significance of the location.

    For Foodies:

“Spice heaven in Istanbul! The Grand Bazaar is a feast for the senses. Freshly ground Turkish coffee, fragrant spices like saffron and sumac, and an endless variety of lokum (Turkish delights). #istanbulfood #grandbazaarfeast”

This post caters to their love of food, offering a glimpse into the culinary treasures that await.

    For Bargain Hunters:

“Haggling for treasures in the Grand Bazaar! From hand-woven kilims to glittering jewelry, there’s something for everyone (and every budget) in this iconic market. #istanbulshopping #grandbazaarfinds”

This post speaks to their desire for a good deal while highlighting the variety of products available.

By understanding your audience and tailoring your message to their interests and knowledge level, you avoid the pitfall of simply showing off a tourist attraction. Instead, you create a connection, offer valuable insights, and encourage further exploration, making your Istanbul blog a trusted source for diverse audiences.

Law 2: Cultivate an Air of Mystery – Don’t Reveal All at Once.

Gone are the days of lengthy, text-heavy posts. We live in a world of fleeting attention spans. To capture interest, employ the art of the tease. Offer snippets of information, pique curiosity with thought-provoking questions, and leave your audience wanting more. This creates a sense of anticipation and keeps them engaged, eagerly awaiting the next piece of the puzzle.

In the ever-churning world of book blogs, standing out requires a touch of intrigue. Here’s how the Law translates into captivating book reveals, using your blog as the platform:

    Mistake: The Full Disclosure

Unveiling a new book with a straightforward post: “Excited to announce a new fantasy novel by Jane Doe – ‘Whispers of the Wind’! A coming-of-age story set in a magical kingdom. Stay tuned for the release date!” #fantasy #newrelease

While informative, this approach lacks suspense. It reveals everything at once, leaving little to pique your reader’s curiosity.

    Greene’s Approach: The Enticing Teaser

Embrace the enigmatic: Instead of a full cover reveal, showcase a captivating detail – a close-up of a mysterious symbol, a weathered map fragment hinting at the story’s world.

Spark the imagination with a cryptic quote: Craft a caption like: “The wind whispers secrets to those who listen.’ A new adventure unfolds soon… #comingsoon #bookstagram”

This approach ignites the imagination. Readers wonder about the story’s genre, the significance of the symbol, and the secrets the wind might hold. It compels them to engage by commenting, guessing the title, or asking questions about the plot.

    Further Engagement:

Gradual Reveals: Over the next few days, unveil additional snippets – a line of evocative prose hinting at the protagonist’s journey, a character sketch shrouded in shadow.

Interactive elements: Host a giveaway where followers can guess the title or the genre based on the clues provided.

By mastering the art of the tease, you transform a book announcement into an interactive experience. You become a storyteller, drawing readers into the world of the novel before it’s even released. This strategy generates excitement, fosters a sense of community, and leaves your readers eagerly awaiting the book’s arrival.

Law 3: Keep Them in Suspense: Foster a Desire for More

Don’t unleash a barrage of information. Drip-feed your message, creating a narrative that unfolds gradually. This keeps your audience invested and eager to discover what comes next.

In the fast-paced world of blogging, where destinations are flaunted like trophies, the key lies in keeping your audience engaged.

Here’s how The Law translates into a captivating travel blog strategy, using the example of a blogger exploring Southeast Asia:

    Mistake: The Information Overload

Bombarding your audience with a lengthy post detailing every aspect of your trip to Angkor Wat – from historical facts to restaurant recommendations to a minute-by-minute account of your exploration.

While informative, this approach overwhelms readers. They might lose interest before reaching the end, missing the key takeaways and the emotional impact of the experience.

    Greene’s Approach: The Gradual Narrative

Fragment the journey: Instead of a single, comprehensive post, break down your Angkor Wat experience into a captivating series.

Focus on a specific aspect each time: Dedicate one post to the awe-inspiring architecture, another to the fascinating history, and perhaps a third to the unique challenges and rewards of exploring the temples.

This approach creates a narrative that unfolds gradually. Readers are drawn in by each piece of the puzzle, eager to discover what comes next. They can choose which aspects interest them most, making the content more digestible and engaging.

    Further Intrigue:

End with a cliffhanger: Conclude each post with a hint of what’s to come. Mention a hidden corner you’ll explore next, a local legend you’ll delve into, or a breathtaking sunrise you’ll witness.

Interactive elements: Encourage reader participation by asking questions about their dream destinations in Southeast Asia or their favorite travel experiences.

By employing the drip-feed method, you transform a travelogue into an ongoing adventure story. You become a guide, leading your readers on a journey of discovery, one captivating post at a time. This strategy keeps them coming back for more, fostering a connection and a sense of shared exploration.

Law 4: Play to People’s Fantasies

Facts are essential, but stories are captivating. Weave personal anecdotes, historical references, or even fictional elements to illustrate your points. Appeal to both the logical and emotional sides of your audience.

In the world of fitness blogs, information overload abounds. Technical jargon and workout routines can leave readers feeling overwhelmed.

Here’s the law translates into a captivating fitness blog, using the example of a yoga instructor:

    Mistake: The Technical Tirade

A blog post solely focused on the biomechanics of a specific yoga pose, dissecting every muscle involved and potential injuries. While informative, this approach lacks emotional connection and fails to inspire.

    Greene’s Approach: The Enchanting Narrative

Weave a story: Instead of dry instructions, weave a narrative around the yoga pose. Describe how ancient Indian yogis used it to cultivate inner peace or reference its symbolic meaning in Hindu mythology.

For example: “Imagine yourself as a mighty warrior in Virabhadrasana (Warrior Pose). Channel the strength and focus of this legendary hero as you activate your core and find stability in this powerful stance.”

Appeal to emotions: Don’t just focus on physical benefits. Highlight the emotional and mental well-being yoga can promote.

For example: “Virabhadrasana isn’t just about sculpted legs; it’s about cultivating inner strength and resilience. As you hold the pose, visualize yourself overcoming any obstacle that life throws your way.”

By incorporating a narrative and appealing to the emotional side of fitness, you connect with your audience on a deeper level. This approach makes the practice more engaging and inspires readers to embark on their fitness journey.

    Further Engagement:

Share personal anecdotes: Describe how yoga transformed your life, overcame a personal challenge, or helped you achieve a specific goal.

Incorporate quotes: Weave in inspirational quotes from yoga masters or philosophers to add depth and meaning to your message.

By playing to people’s fantasies, you transform a fitness blog into a source of inspiration and motivation. You become a guide, not just on the yoga mat, but on the path to a healthier, happier you.

    Law 5: Use Flattery Strategically

Highlight your audience’s strengths and acknowledge their expertise. This creates a sense of connection and makes them more receptive to your message. Remember, a well-placed compliment can open doors.

Robert Greene, in his famed “48 Laws of Power,” emphasizes the power of strategic flattery. But this isn’t about empty compliments. It’s about acknowledging your audience’s strengths and expertise, fostering a sense of connection and receptivity to your message.

Here’s how the Law applies across different scenarios:

    Example 1: The Photography Course

Mistake: Launching a photography course with a generic message like “Learn photography from scratch!”

Strategic Flattery: “Calling all passionate hobbyists! You already have an eye for capturing beauty. This course will help you refine your skills and take your photography to the next level.”

This approach acknowledges the audience’s existing interest and expertise, making them feel valued and more receptive to learning from you.

    Example 2: The Business Blog

Mistake: Starting a business blog post by stating your company’s superiority.

Strategic Flattery: “We know you’re a savvy entrepreneur, constantly seeking ways to optimize your business. Today, we’ll explore proven marketing strategies that have helped countless companies like yours achieve remarkable results.”

Here, you acknowledge the audience’s business acumen and highlight the value proposition – proven strategies tailored to their needs.

Example 3: The Social Media Post

Mistake: Posting a generic question like “What are you doing this weekend?”

Strategic Flattery: “We’re amazed by the creativity you all showcased in last week’s DIY project challenge! This week, let’s share our favorite outdoor adventures using #weekendvibes.”

This approach expresses admiration for past contributions, encouraging further participation and fostering a sense of community.

By strategically using flattery, you build bridges with your audience. You acknowledge their strengths, making them feel valued and more receptive to your ideas. Remember, a sincere compliment can open doors and create a foundation for a lasting connection.

Law 6: Court Controversy (Without Going Too Far)

Spark debate! Pose a thought-provoking question or present a challenging viewpoint. This doesn’t mean being inflammatory, but rather presenting a fresh perspective to generate discussion.

In today’s echo chambers, sparking meaningful conversations can be a challenge. Here’s how the Law translates into igniting healthy debate across various platforms:

The Nuance: Don’t be inflammatory or disrespectful. The goal is to present a fresh perspective, not to offend.

Example 1: The Book Club Discussion

Mistake: Focusing solely on plot points and character motivations.

Provocative Prompt: “While the protagonist’s journey is central, what role does the societal critique of consumerism play in the novel’s overall message?”

This question encourages readers to look beyond the surface and consider the book’s deeper themes, sparking a more nuanced discussion.

Example 2: The Social Media Post (Environmental Issue)

Mistake: Sharing a one-sided statistic about climate change.

Provocative Prompt: “Is individual action truly effective in combating climate change, or are systemic reforms the only answer? Share your thoughts! #climateaction”

This prompt acknowledges the complexity of the issue and invites diverse viewpoints, fostering a productive debate on potential solutions.

Example 3: The Educational Lecture (Historical Figure)

Mistake: Glorifying a historical figure without acknowledging their flaws.

Provocative Prompt: “While Winston Churchill’s leadership undoubtedly secured Allied victory in World War II, his legacy is marred by the Bengal Famine of 1943. Can a leader be both admirable and flawed? Discuss.”

    Admiration for Churchill:

Steadfast Leadership: During Britain’s darkest hour, Churchill provided unwavering leadership, inspiring hope, and resilience in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds. His powerful speeches rallied the nation and his strategic vision proved pivotal in defeating Nazi Germany.

Political Acumen: Churchill’s political maneuvering throughout his long career was undeniable. He navigated complex alliances, forged strong bonds with key leaders like Roosevelt, and ensured Britain’s continued relevance on the world stage.

The Shadow of the Bengal Famine:

Controversial Policies: During World War II, Churchill’s wartime policies are accused of prioritizing stockpiling grain for the war effort over alleviating the Bengal Famine. Millions perished due to food shortages, a tragedy that continues to cast a long shadow over his legacy.

Racial Bias: Accusations of racial prejudice have been leveled at Churchill, with some historians suggesting a disregard for the plight of Indians compared to the British war effort.

    The Complexity of Leadership:

This example highlights the inherent complexity of leadership. Great leaders are rarely one-dimensional figures. Churchill’s wartime leadership undeniably saved countless lives, yet his policies contributed to a devastating famine.

    Discussion Prompts:

    • Can a leader’s wartime actions be justified in the face of potential defeat?

    • Does the good outweigh the bad in Churchill’s case? How do we weigh his achievements against the Bengal Famine?

    • Is it possible to separate a leader’s accomplishments from their flaws in evaluating their legacy?

By exploring these questions, we can engage in a nuanced discussion about leadership, acknowledging both the triumphs and shortcomings of historical figures. Great leaders inspire us, but they also remind us that even the most powerful individuals are human, capable of both remarkable achievements and devastating mistakes.

This approach encourages critical thinking and a balanced understanding of historical figures, sparking a deeper exploration of the past.

Remember: Controversy, when managed strategically, can be a powerful tool. It breaks the monotony of echo chambers, encourages critical thinking, and leads to a more comprehensive understanding of complex issues. By posing thought-provoking questions and presenting fresh perspectives, you can ignite healthy debate and foster a platform for meaningful conversations.

Law 7: Get Others to Do the Work for You

Harness the power of social sharing! Encourage your audience to share your content with their networks. Incentivize participation with interactive elements or contests. Let them become your advocates.

In the digital age, content creators face a constant battle for attention. Here’s how Robert Greene’s Law translates into leveraging the power of your audience to amplify your message:

The Key: Don’t be afraid to share the spotlight. By encouraging your audience to participate, you transform them from passive consumers to active collaborators.

    Example 1: The Foodie Blog

Mistake: Simply posting mouthwatering food photos with basic captions.

Harnessing the Audience: “We love seeing your creative recipe recreations! Share your photos using #OurFoodieFamily for a chance to be featured next week.”

This approach incentivizes audience participation and creates a sense of community. Your audience becomes your advocates, showcasing your recipes and expanding your reach.

Example 2: The Educational YouTube Channel

Mistake: Delivering lectures in a one-sided format.

Harnessing the Audience: “What are your biggest challenges with mastering SEO?

Share your questions in the comments below, and I’ll address them in my next video.”

By encouraging audience interaction, you create a two-way dialogue. This fosters a sense of engagement and keeps viewers coming back for more.

Example 3: The Entrepreneur’s Social Media

Mistake: Bragging about company achievements without audience engagement.

Harnessing the Audience: “Help us shape the future of YourAI! Share your suggestions for new features or improvements in the comments. The most upvoted ideas get implemented!”

This approach leverages the collective wisdom of your audience. It fosters a sense of ownership and encourages brand loyalty.

Remember: Don’t underestimate the power of your audience. By encouraging participation and sharing the spotlight, you achieve several things:

Increased Visibility: Your audience becomes your marketing team, spreading your message to their networks.

Enhanced Content: By incorporating audience feedback and ideas, your content becomes more relevant and engaging.

Stronger Community: A sense of collaboration fosters a loyal community around your brand or message.

Empower your audience, and watch your message take flight.

Law 8: Make Virtue of Necessity

Turn your limitations into strengths. Don’t have access to cutting-edge technology? Craft a heartfelt, handwritten letter. Lacking high-production visuals? Share a captivating audio recording. Embrace your limitations and find creative solutions.

In today’s digital world, where high-tech equipment and polished visuals reign supreme, this law offers a refreshing perspective.

    Example 1: The Aspiring Musician

Limitation: Limited access to a professional recording studio.

Strength in Necessity: Record your music using affordable home recording software. Embrace the raw, lo-fi aesthetic and focus on the power of your songwriting and performance. Many famous artists, like Kurt Cobain and Fiona Apple, used lo-fi recordings to create iconic albums.

Example 2: The Travel Blogger Stuck at Home

Limitation: Travel restrictions due to a global pandemic.

Strength in Necessity: Share virtual travel experiences! Craft blog posts showcasing stunning travel documentaries, and historical virtual tours of museums, or even create “armchair travel guides” based on past adventures. Fuel wanderlust by sharing travel tips and inspiring stories, even without physically traveling.

Example 3: The Small Business Owner

Limitation: Limited marketing budget compared to larger corporations.

Strength in Necessity: Harness the power of social media and community engagement. Run interactive contests, offer personalized customer service, and build genuine connections with your audience. Word-of-mouth marketing and a loyal customer base can be just as effective as expensive advertising campaigns.

Example 4: The Public Speaker with Stage Fright

Limitation: Anxiety and nervousness during presentations.

Strength in Necessity: Channel your nervous energy into passion and conviction. Focus on connecting with your audience on a personal level, using storytelling and humor to overcome stage fright. Authenticity and vulnerability can be more powerful than a perfectly polished presentation.

Remember: Limitations can breed creativity. By embracing what you lack and focusing on your strengths, you can craft unique and compelling content. Sometimes, the “imperfect” approach can be the most effective, adding a touch of authenticity that resonates with your audience.

Law 9: Win with Your Actions, Never by Argument

Actions speak louder than words. Back up your message with concrete examples or inspiring stories. Showcase the impact of your idea through real-world applications.

Engaging in lengthy debates or trying to win people over solely with words can be exhausting and ultimately ineffective. Here’s how Law 9 translates into captivating communication across various scenarios:

The Key: Let your actions be your most persuasive argument. Don’t just talk the talk, walk the walk.

    Example 1: The Environmental Activist

Mistake: Simply protesting and lecturing people about the importance of sustainability.

Winning with Actions: Organize community clean-up events, plant trees, and participate in sustainable living workshops. Showcase the positive impact of these actions and inspire others to get involved.

Example 2: The Business Leader Advocating for Work-Life Balance

Mistake: Merely preaching the importance of employee well-being without concrete steps.

Winning with Actions: Implement flexible work arrangements, offer generous parental leave policies, and prioritize employee mental health initiatives. Demonstrate your commitment to work-life balance through concrete actions, not just empty words.

Example 3: The Social Media Influencer Promoting a New Fitness Program

Mistake: Relying solely on before-and-after photos and testimonials.

Winning with Actions: Post workout videos demonstrating the exercises, share healthy meal plans, and offer personalized coaching to followers. By showcasing the program’s effectiveness through action, you inspire trust and encourage participation.

Example 4: The Teacher Introducing a New Learning Method

Mistake: Simply lecturing students about the benefits of the new approach.

Winning with Actions: Incorporate interactive activities and real-world applications into the lesson plan. Let students experience the effectiveness of the new method firsthand, fostering engagement and understanding.

Remember: People are more likely to be convinced by what they see than by what they hear. By backing up your message with concrete actions, inspiring stories, and real-world results, you win over your audience without the need for lengthy arguments. Your actions become your most persuasive tool, leaving a lasting impact and inspiring others to follow suit.

    Law 10: Corrupt the System

While Greene advocates for ethical communication, understand your platform’s algorithm. Optimize your content for discoverability, using relevant hashtags and engaging captions. However, never compromise your message’s integrity for mere clicks.

On the surface, it suggests exploiting loopholes and manipulating systems for personal gain. However, Greene emphasizes ethical communication.

The Nuance: Understand the algorithms that govern your platform, but don’t compromise your message’s authenticity. Play by the rules, but use them to your advantage.

Example 1: The Budding Musician on Spotify

Mistake: Ignoring music discovery tools altogether, relying solely on organic growth.

Corrupting the System (Ethically): Research popular playlists within your genre and submit your music for consideration. Utilize relevant keywords in your artist bio and track descriptions to improve searchability. This leverages the platform’s discovery tools without sacrificing artistic integrity.

Example 2: The Educational YouTube Channel

Mistake: Avoiding SEO best practices, leading to a limited audience reach.

Corrupting the System (Ethically): Incorporate relevant keywords in video titles and descriptions to ensure discoverability. Engage with viewers in the comments section, fostering a community and encouraging repeat viewership. This optimizes content for the platform without compromising educational value.

Example 3: The Blogger Struggling with Algorithm Changes

Mistake: Giving up on a platform altogether due to frustration with algorithm updates.

Corrupting the System (Ethically): Stay updated on platform changes and adapt your content strategy accordingly. Experiment with different content formats – short videos, live streams, or interactive polls – to maintain audience engagement. This demonstrates adaptability and leverages the platform’s evolving features.

Remember: Every platform has its own set of rules and algorithms. Understanding how they work allows you to optimize your content for discoverability without compromising your core message. Use these tools to your advantage, reach a wider audience, and amplify your voice ethically.

By applying these principles, we can transform how we share. From social media posts to professional presentations, we can become masters of communication, leaving a lasting impact on our audience. Remember, sharing is about more than just broadcasting information – it’s about connecting, inspiring, and leaving a lasting impression. So, take these lessons to heart, and watch your power to share reach new heights.

  • Books that got me through my Depression

Books that got me through my Depression

    Books that can heal

When you are depressed, the last thing you want to do is read something that will invoke thoughts….make you do things that maybe you are not quite ready for. That’s when listening to the soul – that small often silent voice that sends signals from time to time. In my period of depression and some heavy soul searching while groping through the darkness…. It was my love for books that had helped me survive.

Here are some books that might feed the soul.

Mastery of Life by Ralph Waldo Emerson – This book has five essays that capture the profoundness of life. While his essay on Compensation is the most talked about to resolve money matters, I found his essay on Self-Reliance and Fate especially insightful.

Emerson’s words resonated with me on a deeper level than I ever expected. “Self-Reliance and Fate” wasn’t just about financial independence, though that was a message I desperately needed to hear. It was about trusting my own intuition, carving my own path, and not letting societal expectations dictate my life. His call to “trust thyself” felt like a lifeline thrown across the murky waters of depression. Here I was, adrift in a sea of self-doubt, and Emerson was urging me to grab the oars and start rowing towards my own personal shore.

The concept of fate, however, was a bit trickier. While Emerson spoke of a universal order, a grand design, it felt at odds with the chaos I was experiencing. But then, a lightbulb moment. Maybe fate wasn’t some predetermined script; maybe it was more like a choose-your-own-adventure story. The overarching themes might be set, but the choices I made, the paths I took, all contributed to the narrative of my life. This reframing offered a glimmer of control, a sense that even in the throes of depression, I still held the pen.

That realization, however small, was a turning point. Armed with Emerson’s wisdom and a newfound sense of agency, I started making small changes. I dusted off my neglected art supplies, a childhood passion I’d abandoned under the weight of self-criticism. The initial brushstrokes were hesitant, but with each stroke, a sliver of color seeped back into my world.

This wasn’t a magical cure, of course. Depression remained a constant companion, whispering doubts and anxieties in my ear. But now, I had tools to combat them. Emerson’s words became a mantra, a source of inner strength. The blank canvas became a safe space to express the turmoil within, a way to process emotions I couldn’t yet articulate.

The journey was far from linear. There were days when the darkness threatened to engulf me again, days when picking up a paintbrush felt like an insurmountable task. But with each small victory, each completed artwork, a tiny ember of hope flickered brighter. Maybe, just maybe, there was light at the end of the tunnel. And maybe, just maybe, I had the strength to walk towards it, one brushstroke at a time.

Women who run with the wolves by Clarissa Pinkola Estes – If life or your existence does not make sense to you, or maybe you feel like an outsider in your own community do read this one.

Diving into “Women Who Run With the Wolves” felt like stepping into a forgotten language, a dialect of the soul I desperately needed to relearn. Estes’ words wove myths and fairytales into a tapestry that resonated deep within my bones. The concept of the Wild Woman, a powerful, instinctive force within every woman, struck a chord that had long been muted by societal expectations. Here, in these pages, was a fierce spirit that mirrored the very essence I felt buried under layers of self-doubt.

The book wasn’t just about reclaiming this Wild Woman, though. It was about understanding the various archetypes within her – the Creatrix, the Bone Woman, the Seeker. Estes painted a picture of a woman as a complex, multifaceted being, capable of immense creation, fierce resilience, and a relentless pursuit of truth. It was a stark contrast to the one-dimensional image I’d been conditioned to see – the perfect wife, the nurturing mother, the quiet follower.

As I delved deeper, the stories resonated with experiences I’d tucked away in the dusty corners of my mind. The silencing of my voice, the stifling of my creativity, the constant pressure to conform – all these experiences found a voice within the myths. But Estes didn’t dwell on the darkness; she offered pathways to reclaim the lost parts of ourselves. Through journaling prompts, rituals, and a deep connection with nature, she provided tools to awaken the Wild Woman within.

It wasn’t easy. There were days when the whispers of doubt drowned out Estes’ empowering message. But with each step into the woods near my house, each deliberate breath of fresh air, a tiny spark of the Wild Woman began to ignite. The act of writing, once a chore, transformed into a raw exploration of my inner landscape. I started noticing the beauty in the mundane – the resilience of a dandelion pushing through cracks in the pavement, the vibrant hues of a sunset after a storm.

Slowly, almost imperceptibly, the colors in my world started to return. Depression remained a shadow, a constant reminder of the battle within. But now, I wasn’t alone. Estes had given me a voice, a compass, and a pack of wild women – both fictional and real – to guide me on my path. The journey towards wholeness was far from over, but with each unearthed memory, each reclaimed piece of myself, the Wild Woman within grew a little stronger, ready to face the world with a fierce glint in her eyes.

Joyous body by Clarissa Pinkola Estes – This book helps understand the deep-rooted being called Body and how important her role is not just for us but also as a conscious being with its own intelligence that serves the entire planet. It refers to the body as your consort, your companion in the magical experience of Life.

After the eye-opening journey with “Women Who Run With the Wolves,” Clarissa Pinkola Estes’ “Joyous Body” felt like a natural progression. Here, the focus wasn’t just on reclaiming the Wild Woman within, but on appreciating and nurturing the very vessel that housed her – my body.

Estes shattered the societal narrative of the body as a battleground, something to be controlled and shrunk. Instead, she painted a picture of a magnificent, intelligent being, a “consort” on this magical experience of life. The book challenged me to confront negative self-talk and the constant pressure to conform to unrealistic beauty standards. It was a call to reconnect with my body, to listen to its whispers and respect its needs.

This wasn’t about blind indulgence or a denial of health. It was about forging a respectful partnership. Estes offered practices like mindful movement and body appreciation rituals. Suddenly, the act of stretching wasn’t just a chore, but a way to celebrate my body’s flexibility. Eating nourishing food became a communion with the earth, a way to fuel my body for the journey ahead.

The impact was profound. The chronic aches and pains that had become companions started to lessen as I listened to my body’s signals for rest and movement. I started noticing the subtle shifts in my energy levels, learning to anticipate what my body needed. This newfound awareness wasn’t just physical; it was emotional as well. My body became a barometer of my mental state, a reflection of the turmoil within. Learning to soothe my physical anxieties through deep breathing and gentle stretches helped me calm the storm raging inside.

The journey of reconnecting with my body wasn’t always easy. There were days when old habits crept back in, days when the negativity seemed overwhelming. But with each mindful breath, each conscious movement, a tiny seed of self-compassion bloomed. Estes’ words became a mantra: my body wasn’t the enemy, it was my ally, my partner in this wild adventure called life. And slowly, but surely, a new reality began to take shape. The once strained relationship with my body started to transform into a dance, a harmonious collaboration between spirit and flesh.

The road to complete healing was long, but the path was clearer now. With a renewed appreciation for the Wild Woman within and a newfound respect for my body, I felt empowered to face the world. The depression that had shrouded my life wasn’t gone, but it no longer felt like an insurmountable obstacle. Armed with these powerful tools – self-awareness, intuition, and a body-mind connection – I was ready to navigate the darkness, one step, one breath at a time.

The Kama Sutra of Vatsyayana by Sir Richard Francis Burton – This book talks about the science of sexuality through various feminine and masculine archetypes. It correlates sexuality to talents, hobbies, vocation, etc and helps understand the role of sex in your holistic being. A lot of emotional pain perpetuates into our Sacral Chakra which is the hub of our individuality (femininity/masculinity). We sometimes hold energy blocks in our Sacral Chakra that not just block us away from our inner experience but also block us from experiencing the World in its entirety.

I’ll admit, “The Kama Sutra of Vatsyayana” wasn’t exactly what I expected to find on my path to healing depression. But then again, maybe that’s precisely what I needed – a nudge outside my comfort zone. This ancient text, far from being a mere how-to manual, offered a surprisingly profound exploration of sexuality’s role in our overall well-being.

The idea of linking sexuality to feminine and masculine archetypes resonated deeply. Estes’ “Wild Woman” found a counterpart here, not just in terms of raw power, but also in the realm of sensuality. The book challenged the notion of sex as a purely physical act, instead presenting it as a way to express creativity, connect with our partners on a deeper level, and tap into a vital life force.

This resonated with the emotional blockages I felt within my Sacral Chakra, the supposed energy center linked to sexuality and creativity. Depression had certainly dampened both. The book offered practices like mindful touch and exploring different aspects of sensuality, not necessarily for the purpose of intercourse, but for self-discovery and a deeper connection with my own body.

It was a slow, tentative exploration at first. Aromatic baths became more than just hygiene rituals; they were a way to reconnect with my senses. Listening to music with a focus on the physical sensations it evoked was a revelation. These practices, while seemingly unrelated to sex, started to chip away at the walls I’d built around myself.

The impact on my relationship with intimacy was undeniable. Touch, once something associated with anxiety, became a source of comfort and connection. The focus shifted away from performance and towards exploration, creating a safe space for vulnerability and shared pleasure. It wasn’t a magical cure for depression, of course, but it was a missing piece of the puzzle, a way to reconnect with a vital part of myself that had been dormant for far too long.

This newfound awareness wasn’t without its challenges. There were moments of self-consciousness, anxieties that whispered doubts. But with each step, each mindful touch, a tiny seed of self-acceptance bloomed. The disconnect between my mind and body started to bridge, and with it came a renewed appreciation for the power and beauty of sexuality.

The journey towards healing was far from over, but a new perspective emerged. Depression might have dimmed my light, but it hadn’t extinguished it. By nurturing my body, reconnecting with my Wild Woman, and exploring the depths of my sensuality, I was reigniting the flame from within. The path ahead was still shrouded in uncertainty, but I walked it now with a newfound sense of wholeness, ready to embrace the darkness and the light, one mindful touch, one sensual breath at a time.

How are you dealing with your mental health? Any books you’d like to add to my list?
